Soweto Opera Quadro was established in 2003 by a group of musicians from Soweto and its surroundings. The group/band consists of four singers and display lots of talent with wonderful sounds through voices and instruments. Their repertoire ranges from classic, opera, classical jazz, African Jazz, African, Afro-pop, to Christmas Music. It has gained a good exposure and publicity from performing at festivals, concerts, corporate gigs, schools, TV shows (Weekend Live and Kids News), Radio (Classic FM and Lesedi FM), Magazines and Newspapers.
Born in Soweto, he started singing at an early age. He sings in tenor he then joined a private music clinic and did basic performing art where he majored with voice and stage acting under Petros Mofokeng. Edward sings in a variety of music genres from African to Opera. He joined Promusica opera company as under study in 1999 and performed Opera Productions such as Verdi’s Latraviata, Regoletto, Unballo in machara, Beethoven symphony no2, Gounod st Cecelia mass, Requiem and also part of chorus celebrating Promusica Theatre and silver jubilee concert. He played a role of the First man in Armoured and First priest (Magic Flute Opera)as his debut as a soloist for the Promusica Opera Company under Weiss Doubel. He is also a freelance soloist for SABC Choristers where he recorded a CD with them, and also recorded a movie sound track as a lead singer with London Film production a movie called Red Dust.
He performed Opera concerts around South Africa and toured Botswana, Zimbabwe and Germany. He is a sounding member of the Soweto Opera Quadro.
Elliot is a tenor singer and starts singing at primary school and later joined a private clinic under the leadership of Petros Mofokeng as a vocal teacher and trainer. He was auditioned by Promusica Opera Company where he performed opera productions such as Regoletto, Unballo in maschara, Tosca, Beethoven’s symphony no 9 with them. He did concerts for SAPS’s Choir as a soloist and toured Botswana, Lesotho and Zimbabwe. He performed with Soweto symphony Orchestra concerts and performed at the opening of Gomma Gomma Awards at Sun City in 2004. He is also a founder member of the Soweto Opera Quadro. He is an athlete and an aspiring athlete trainer.
Bokang is another tenor singer in the group/band. He studied theory and voice at Fuba School of music in Johannesburg. He has performed for school projects and did solo concert with them. He also did concerts with Soweto Symphony Orchestra and toured South Africa with them. He was invited to performed at the opening ceremony of the Legislature in Johannesburg and also performed at the Rand Water Choral Festival as a soloist. He toured to Botswana, Lesotho and Zimbabwe. He is a founder member of Soweto Opera Quadro.
Luvuyo Maurice Mgweba was born in the Eastern Cape. He studies music at UCT (University of Cape Town. He is a lyric baritone singer. He has performed many opera at Arts Cape Opera House under the direction of Angelo Gobato. He also performed alongside well known acclaimed opera musicians from all over the world; he was also a soloist of UCT Choir for Africa under the bayton of Lungile Jacobs. He is the former member of the well-known South African Best Choral Choir, Gauteng Choristers. He is also the member of the Soweto Opera Quadro.
